Chimacum Water Year Update by local resident Al Latham

HAPPY NEW WATER YEAR!
Water Year runs from Oct 1 – Sept 30.   “The term "water year" in reports that deal with surface-water supply is defined as the 12-month period October 1, for any given year through September 30, of the following year.”

Here’s the report from the slightly off center (5.1 mi. south of Chimacum)  “Community Collaborative Rain Hail Snow” station www.cocorahs.org for September and the 2017 water year.

September precip was 0.88” with the average here being 1.4”
Water year total was 39.39” with 35” being the average.

The NOAA Climate Prediction Center for October is quite specific J:  “Equal probability of above normal, normal or below normal precipitation and temperature”.  How’s that for hedging their bets!   For October through December they indicate higher than normal temperature with maybe higher than normal precipitation.

Next report in November, weather or not!   Al Latham
